Though left with half the pair of your wings, go fly… or at least try. You are not made to just stand by.
The Girl Adventurer
Skydive Australia, Cairns, Australia
How many of us have daydreamed about adding skydiving to our bucket list of adrenaline-pumping adventures? The idea of hurling ourselves out of an airplane at a staggering 15,000 feet above the mesmerizing landscapes of Cairns is a thrill that beckons like no other.
Skydiving was an elusive dream etched on my bucket list, a distant aspiration I’d often pondered but never truly believed I could muster the courage to achieve. That was until the moment when determination eclipsed doubt, and I decided to take the leap—quite literally. Was I scared? Let’s not mince words; I was absolutely terrified. But let me share my perspective.
The spine-tingling terror of skydiving wasn’t a constant companion throughout the experience; instead, it lingered during specific phases. It whispered its presence as I waited nervously for my turn, rattled my nerves during the van ride to the drop zone, and cast shadows as I strode toward the aircraft. The suspense amplified as the small plane rumbled to life, and the world outside grew smaller during takeoff. The pinnacle of anxiety arrived with the realization that I was hurtling toward the open plane door, poised to take the plunge. It was these moments that constituted the scariest part of the entire adventure.
In retrospect, I’ve come to understand that fear is a product of uncertainty, a specter that haunts the unknown. The instant I propelled myself out of the plane, the fear evaporated into the ether. Suddenly, I wasn’t plummeting; I was soaring. I wasn’t falling; I was flying. The rush was unlike anything I’d ever experienced—exhilarating and profoundly liberating. The wind up there possesses an indomitable force that defies the sensation of free fall at breakneck speeds. Instead, I found serenity, happiness, and an overwhelming sense of security.
The question lingers, will I embark on this heart-pounding journey again? The answer resounds with absolute certainty: A.B.S.O.L.U.T.E.L.Y. As for the notion of skydiving ruling the world, well, it may not govern the entire globe, but it has undoubtedly etched its indelible mark on my world, forever igniting a passion for the skies and the boundless adventures that await among the clouds.
